Being a Company Secretarial/Legal Intern part I :)

Hello :-)

My name is Lauren, and I am the Company Secretarial/Legal intern here at Barnardo's. I have just completed the second year of a Law degree at City University, London, and hope to graduate in 2009. This is my third week at Barnardo's, and so far it's been great!!! The work of a company/legal secretary is endlessly varied, so I am always busy. A lot of our work revolves around the governance and regulation of Barnardo's as a charitable organisation, and last week I sat in on a meeting attended by the senior executive and various trustee members, who made me feel very welcome :-) I also accompanied my supervisor at a top London law firm, which was incredibly enjoyable for me since this is the type of law firm I hope to be training with one day.
In terms of legal input, I deal a lot with contracts, so an eye for detail is always a plus. This week I am due to help draft a contract as well as the constitutional document governing three non-maintained special schools run by Barnardo's. It's been a hugely educational experience for me, and I am definitey considering charity law as a future career.
Everyone has been really nice and offering me cups of tea on a regular basis (thanks Marie!!!). Tomorrow I am helping fundraise at Paddington station, which should be a total laugh riot, since I have never done anything like it before.
Got loads of meetings coming up, so will be sure to keep you posted!
Toodles for now :)
Lauren.
