Hello All!

I’m Becky and working with the ‘Major Giving’ team at Barnardo’s headquarters in London. Our area specifically works with the population who support Barnardo’s individually. Therefore we obviously come into contact with a lot of ‘highly acclaimed’ people. That’s all very exciting (and a bit nerve-racking) when you’re picking up the phone and speaking to PA’s of these influential people!

The past two weeks I’ve been here we have been preparing for an event we’ve got TONIGHT! We have lots of different Barnardo supporters attending (not just major donors) and people we’ve invited who could be potential supporters. So it’s a big and exciting event we’re all looking forward to.

So far I’ve been having a steady work load. The scheme set up for interns here is really good. Amidst you having your own work set for you in your department, the ‘volunteer intern scheme’ involves you with all the other work going on at Barnardo’s aswell. Induction meetings are given from different areas of the charity (which gives a broad overview on the workings of the charity), project visits have been arranged for us, so we can visit the work Barnardos does, we’re invited to help and assist with fundraising events and we’ve even got an appointment to speak to the CEO, Martin Narey himself!

Therefore I can happily say this is a brilliant and very worthwhile opportunity and one that I’m really enjoying!
